Frequently Asked Questions
What are phytonutrients, and what does "standardized phytonutrients" mean?
Phytonutrients, sometimes referred to as phytochemicals, are any chemical derived from a plant source. Many phytonutrients can have a beneficial effect on health. Standardized phytonutrients means that the ingredient is delivered using a quality controlled process so that you are ensured of receiving a consistent amount with every serving.
What is hydroponic technology, and how does it affect the benefits of PhytoMatrix multivitamin and mineral supplement?
Hydroponics is a technology for growing plants in nutrient solutions, with no other support. Traditional agricultural systems grow plants in solid forms of support such as soil, peat moss, sawdust, etc. Hydroponic techniques allow for precise water and nutrient application directly to the roots of each plant. The hydroponic process for the mineral blend in PhytoMatrix® caplets allows for controlled uptake of concentrated minerals, which can be stored in plant tissues. Food from minerals may be readily absorbed and utilized by the body. The exclusive hydroponic process utilized by Mannatech provides concentrations of essential minerals that can provide the minimum daily requirements with one daily serving (four caplets). This is very significant because even fresh fruits and vegetables, which usually have high concentrations of vitamins, may be low in essential minerals.
Why is there a notation on the PhytoMatrix label stating that dicalcium phosphate is not a preferred source of calcium?
The primary source of calcium in PhytoMatrix caplets is red algae (Lithothamnium). However, dicalcium phosphate, an excipient used for capleting, also contributes some amount of calcium. Regulations require that we disclose this information, but Mannatech wants the consumer to know that we do not feel that it is as beneficial a form of calcium.
Why do the calcium and magnesium in PhytoMatrix caplets have lower Daily Value (DV) percentages than the product's other minerals?
Because calcium and magnesium concentrations are limited in plant tissue, and the recommended DV of these macrominerals is several hundred milligrams each, including 100% DV of calcium and magnesium from only plant sources would require many grams of plant material. This would result in an unreasonably large serving of several large tablets and a product that would be out of the price range of many consumers. Therefore, the calcium and magnesium in PhytoMatrix caplets have lower DV percentages than the product's other minerals.
How do PhytoMatrix caplets differ from Catalyst tablets?
While Catalyst tablets are a great vitamin/mineral product, PhytoMatrix caplets represent a whole new class of technology that, until now, has not existed anywhere. In addition to providing an all-natural vitamin complex, PhytoMatrix caplets utilize patented hydroponic technology to provide plant-sourced minerals in concentrated and beneficial amounts. Plant-sourced minerals may be more easily absorbed by the body. This unique feature represents a major new advancement in the technology of nutrient delivery.
Why do some of the labeled nutrients in PhytoMatrix supplement appear to offer less Daily Value (DV) percentage than what is listed for Catalyst tablets?
The advanced technology utilized in the formulation of PhytoMatrix caplets allows for the delivery of nutrients in a more natural food form. A more natural food source may provide greater absorption and utilization. The advanced formulation of PhytoMatrix supplement, utilizing patented technology, may allow for more nutritional benefit from smaller quantities of natural ingredients.
How do the plant-sourced minerals in PhytoMatrix caplets differ from the Ambroglycin® complex in Catalyst tablets?
Plant-sourced minerals may be easily absorbed and utilized. The Ambroglycin complex is a blend of trace minerals bonded to amino acids along with Ambrotose® complex and dried herbs and vegetables. The Ambroglycin complex was designed to closely resemble or simulate a food source. The plant technology utilized by PhytoMatrix caplets provides minerals in an actual food form, which represents the latest advancement in mineral technology.
How do PhytoMatrix caplets compare with Phyt•Aloe® bulk powder and capsules?
Our PhytoMatrix caplets are a food-sourced multivitamin/mineral/phytonutrient product containing natural ingredients. They are designed to provide essential vitamins, minerals and standardized amounts of phytonutrients. Our Phyt•Aloe bulk powder and capsules are composed of high-quality fruit and vegetable powders, but they are not standardized. Our Phyt•Aloe bulk powder and capsules are formulated to supplement fruit and vegetable intake, but do not provide the same vitamin, mineral and phytonutrient content as PhytoMatrix caplets. Taking both PhytoMatrix caplets and Phyt•Aloe powder or capsules together may increase the benefit to your health, but one product does not replace the other.*
